Simonton Development Corporation (SDC) in Simonton (the City), Texas, adopted a Business Assistance Grant Program that will provide financial assistance to Simonton businesses when they decide to improve their business establishments.
The SDC is one of the City’s two economic development corporations established to support and enhance the economic climate and viability within the City. It is supported by a portion of the sales tax collected by the City and is served by a seven-member Board of Directors who are appointed by the City Council.
Grants are being offered in three categories of improvements: Façade improvements for store fronts; new or refurbished business signs; and property improvements such as lighting and landscaping. Cash-match grants of up to $2,000 are provided in each of these three categories of improvements. The grants are limited to businesses located within the city limits of the City of Simonton and are available to both business owners and/or business building owners. An applicant may receive grants in any two of the three categories during a one-year period.
Interested business owners or business property owners may apply for these new cash-match grants by filing the appropriate application with the City; however, applications must be received prior to the work commencing.
Currently serving on the SDC Board of Directors are Lou Boudreaux, David de los Santos, Stephan Sear, Edmund McAleer, Cynthia Aber, David Houlihan and Larry Smith. The Board was assisted in the program’s development by Bill Knesek of Southwestern Economics, LLC, the City’s economic development consultant.
Guidelines and criteria for the cash-match grant program as well as application forms are available at Simonton City Hall located at 35011 FM 1093 or by calling 281-533-9809. Applications will be considered on a monthly basis at the regular meeting of the Simonton Development Corporation’s Board of Directors.
